We got here to Los Angeles in 1979, and as destiny would have it, in 1983, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had been searching for a Chinese language child to star in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” They went to Hong Kong, Singapore, London, San Francisco, New York, and had been about to surrender when the casting director mentioned they need to give Chinatown a strive.

So Spielberg and Lucas held an open casting name at our elementary faculty. My brother’s instructor thought he ought to audition, so I type of tagged alongside, and as he was auditioning, I used to be teaching him about what to say and do. The casting director noticed me and mentioned, “Would you like to give it a strive?” I assumed I did horribly.

Did you even know who Harrison Ford was?

No. I didn’t see “Star Wars” or “Raiders of the Misplaced Ark” till after we completed the film. However he was a tremendous man. So down-to-earth, so humble, and actually beneficiant as an actor. And he taught me how to swim. We had been simply hanging out on the swimming pool in Sri Lanka in our lodge, and he says, “Ke, are you aware how to swim?” I didn’t, so he says, “Come on, I’ll train you.”

A yr later you’re in “The Goonies,” which was one other huge hit.

Yeah, that was one other wonderful journey. However I didn’t develop up wanting to be an actor. As I bought older, although, after I realized I needed to do that, there have been simply not a number of presents. When there was one, the function was very stereotypical, and also you had each Asian in Hollywood combating for it.
